Default what is the best way to submix toms?

i have 4 tracks of rack toms that i want to mix to a single new stereo audio track so i can delete the original 4. what is the best way to do this? should i just assign the 4 tom tracks outputs to a new stereo audio tracks inputs and arm the track and record it or is it better to use busses on the tom tracks into a new stereo track?

Use a bus: create a new stereo audio track, make a stereo bus it's input and use that same bus as output for your tom tracks. Once you have the right levels, you can record.

If you want to use effects on the bounce, you can send it to an Aux input first.

is this just to free up tracks? because if it is you don't want to delete the other 4
if you are using PT 6+ because you can just turn the voices off on the unused tracks
that way if u decide to change them later u can turn the voices back on and fix what u want
then re bounce them, but if u submix them and then delete them ur screwed if u want to make
a change

Page 98 of the PT reference guide talks about how to set the voices. Click on the voice selector ("dyn" right underneath the faders in the mix window) and turn them off from there. For submixing, I just make the tracks inactive after I'm done bouncing them. I leave all the plug-ins on them and just make them active if I need to mix them again.
