Default Strike Add Instrument to Kit Issue

I have Bounce Rock loaded as a kit in Strike. In the Strike window, I dragged the Claps sample from the kits on the left and placed it into the Strike Mix Window. I see it and when I click my mouse on it - I hear the claps. It does not however react to my controller when I try to find it on a key. Nor does it exist in the "Blue" single note keys in the strike window. Problem is I cannot record it if I am in record mode even if I click it with my mouse. Not sure if I need to assign it somewhere. I am not midi friendly unfortunately. Any help?

EDIT!!! Sorry Guys - Pg 21-22 of the manual.
