Default Pro tools 11 freezes in the middle of a session

Hello I have a new problem with pro tools 11 freezing in the middle of a session everything just stops and I can't do anything else. I can't control alt delete, minimize, nothing... it just stops I have to reboot the machine by just turning it off and turning it on. I thought it might have been a waves plugin that was newly installed. I had since deleted all my Waves plugins and everything to do with a waves and although it was better for a little while it has returned... please let me know what you guys need to know so I can get the help I need as far as info...

I'm on Windows 7, i5, protools 11.3.0, 8gb ram

Where is your SiSoft Sandra report?

Inability to interrupt with CTR-ALT-DEL likely implies a more serious problem with a device driver, operating system or hardware. (In that order of probability). And since Windows can easily become a seething cesspool of third party crapware, lots of that should be suspect as well.

Plugins with really bad memory leaks might be another candidate, so try removing *all* third party plugins and trashing prefs.

Try looking in the Windows event log for anything going on around the time of these hangs.

If you have any anti-virus software installed update it and run a full system scan then completely disable it or Uninstall it. Uninstall any other crapware installed on the system, disk indexing utilities, etc etc.

Try running Pro Tools with a different playback engine.

Check your system is up to date, interface and video drivers etc. OS updates, etc.

Do a full clean Windows install on a spare/new drive or partition and install just the bare minimum of Pro Tools, ILM and needed drivers and test with that. Ideally install Windows from a Microsoft download/media and not do an OEM recovery if that is laden with OEM crapware.

yorgo:
Are you running any vi's driven by MIDI? Back when I ran a Sonar/Windows system I'd have freeze-ups like you describe. When that happened I'd see the two little blinking lights in the Windows taskbar indicating MIDI activity. The only way to cure it was a hard shutdown & restart. This was happened even after cleaning out all the crapware but not as often as before.

So here is my Sandra report. I've never done one of these. I'm not sure what is common info that is needed....I will post some of it.
Also i did notice when problem began, I turned on my phantom power on my focusrite 2i4 and started clicking the inputs of and and wouldn't stop. I kept turning the phantom off and on, yet it kept happening. I ended up rebooting the machine, then it was ok....but after that it problems began....
anyways here it is..

Default Re: Pro tools 11 freezes in the middle of a session

Only thing that stands out from the Sandra report is you may be a bit light on for memory. I prefer to see 16GB or more for Pro Tools 11 or later. Long shot here but if you do have misbehaving plugins/memory leaks that’ may make things go south quicker/more often. You will also get better performance with DIMMs on each memory channel (see the computer/motherboard documentation for DIMM recommendations). If you upgrade memory use identical DIMMs on each channel... same manufacturer, specs, exact model.

But focus on the things I already suggested before first.

Thank you Darryl... I have trashed the pref...reloaded all my waves plugin with correct version and I seem to be up and running. I haven't had an issue yet.
Btw I have ordered more RAM identical to the 8gb I have as well.

Thank you guys for your help
