PT 10 Crashes with MOTU 424 PCIe MAC
Wondering if anyone can shed some light on this.
I have a Mac Pro 12 core (June 2012). I have 4 2408 mk3's. I installed the latest version drive from the website. OSX 10.6.8, PT 10.3.3/3.4 I've confirmed I do get audio from the MOTU through playing a QT. When I open PT, hold N and select PCI 424, Pro Tools crashes every single time at DAE. I have an older version driver of the PCI 424, V4.1 released June 2012 where V5 is released Sept 2012. I've moved the PCI card from Slot 2 to slot 4 and have the same issue. The only thing I've not tried yet is a fresh install and V4.1 PT drivers. Any insight into this would be much appreciated. I'd hate not to ve able to use the gear I have. I'm sure it will work fine in DP, but I want to mix in PT and not use an Mbox. Thanks LEX |

Re: PT 10 Crashes with MOTU 424 PCIe MAC
Hello
I don't know if this is the issue but with other audio interfaces if there is too much I/O PT will crash. The number is something over 64, not sure exactly. Give this a try - power down your system, unplug two of your 2408s, then restart. Hold down N again and see if that helps. Hugh |

Thanks Hugh.
Great tip. Will try it. Cloning ATM. I assume Hugh from the Nuendo forums? Did you end up all PT? LEX |

Re: PT 10 Crashes with MOTU 424 PCIe MAC
Well that certainly seemed to work.
Back to 10.6.7, V4.1 MOTU drivers and 10.3.3 Looks like it sees 48 I/O? I thought it was limited to 32? Changed in PT10? Makes me happy for sure. I pretty much use PT for mixing and POST so I/O not big deal. Thanks Any other thoughts feel free to chime in. LEX |

Re: PT 10 Crashes with MOTU 424 PCIe MAC
Hello Lex,
Glad it worked. PT "sees" all your I/O but is limited in use to the FIRST 32 I/O of your interface. If there is I/O beyond some limit (something above 64) PT crashes. SSL's madi cards had this issue - they have 128 I/O and they had to release a driver that allowed you to artificially limit the amount of I/O visible to the OS, then PT would work. RME's MadiFX card won't work at all with PT because on the MacOS the card does not have the ability to limit the I/O, so PT won't run. Yes, same Hugh from the Nuendo forums. We have both PT and Nuendo systems - Nuendo with RME dual-Madi and triple-Madi cards, and PT with both Native and HDX2. We use whichever gets the job done better and/or faster as they both do certain things better. We'll use whatever someone wants to pay us for! That's really the bottom line, isn't it? Hugh |

Re: PT 10 Crashes with MOTU 424 PCIe MAC
With the MOTU PCI Audio Setup app you can enable and disable I/O.
