Question Can I use PT8 M-Pwr on Mac Book without hardware?

Got PT8 M-Powered with M-Audio 610 in my studio but want to get a Mac Book Pro so I can mix at home. Can I do that by using the iLok on the laptop or does it need to be connected to hardware to run at all? I know PT9 will do it but if I upgrade I also need to upgrade from XP to Windows 7 on my desktop. Was hoping to not have to upgrade everything as I'm happy with the way it is now!

Thanks!
