Default Anyone else with slow graphic redraws in 2018.1

Hi everyone,

I just upgraded to 2018.1

Everything feels good but I'm back with the same problem I had with 12.8.2 where the edit window is insanely laggy.

I feel like I'm driving a big old truck. I'm on the edge of a downgrade.

This is on a maxed out Trashcan and Mac OS Sierra.

Is it just me?

Fab

Hi fab

Seems fine here for the past week. Had to work on some old, very large sessions, and the experience on PT2018.1 has been the best for any release I can remember.

do you happen to be using an ultra high res screen?

This is the trashcan with dual D700 amd, yes?

Sierra 10.12.6?

HI,

The machine runs MAC OS 10.12.2
The graphics cards are AMD FirePro D300 2048 MB not 700s so I guess it's not maxed out. My mistake.
And my screen runs at 3440X1440

12.8.1 ran fine, 12.8.3 ran fine on the same machine.

12.8.2 and 2018.1 run slow.

It's a shame because everything else runs so much better than before.

Fab

2018 is unusable again in larger sessions. more than 20 Tracks with some clips on it are slow to scroll.

mix sessions with 200+ tracks are uncontrollable..... back to 12.8.3.

I wonder if a lower screen res would make it function better???

only 12.12.6 is officially supported by 2018.1

there were definitely refinements made to sierra in the graphical sub system in further releases. Just installing the update might solve your issues, you are on an extremely early sierra.

3440*1440 should be absolutely fine for D300's rendering audio app graphics.. are you pushing video tracks as well? That wouldn't help in this case.

Personally I've been doing some large tests recently cause of my dsp testing, and have maxed out pro tools with 128 tracks (vanilla can't go higher) and 64 tracks at 96K.

I have had no issues at all.

The graphics only slowed down when all 8 cores on pro tool's meter were literally pegged, and even then, it was entirely acceptable.

*however*, i have an nvidia 750m.. a crappy dated consumer card..

And every time i have read of PT graphic slowdown, AMD seems to be a denominator in it. It could just be coincidence and that I am totally wrong about it, but if it is, avid needs to take note as apple only use amd for their discrete graphics now.

On another note, can i ask which monitor you use? is the 3440 doubled or is it usable space? If the latter, it might be enough to get just the one screen instead of the two samsung 27" i am about to buy. What is the size? Pm if you can if you think it's off topic. Cheers

The words “should be” is exactly why you might want to change the Res and reboot and see.

It’s called troubleshooting after all for a reason

On the other hand I agree he should be running the latest .dot upgrade of OSX available and that might fix his complete issue

I am not sure if this is related or a unique bug on its own - in large MIDI sessions, adding new tracks or even moving or hiding/un-hiding existing tracks in the session causes PT GUI to temporarily freeze.
Spinning beach ball, no GUI responsiveness.
I noticed that when I had track numbers viewable in the edit window, pro tools was taking like 2 min each time to redraw the track numbers in.

It eventually clears, and PT then functions as normal... provided i don't add, move or hide/unhide tracks.

My PT computer:
Mac Pro 6,1 Mac OS Sierra; Displays: 2 Apple 27" displays at 2K/1440.

ok wow, that's awful. Never experienced such a thing.. i am literally hiding and unhiding 16 tracks at a time and never an issue. I have never seen a spinning beach ball in PT, not even when i had the slow graphics in el capitan.

mac pro 6.1 is the trashcan yes? So, amd again.

Obviously something wrong with trashcans and 2018.1.. anyone else?

Also, you say sierra, 12.12.6 yes?
