Well, I just looked up the Projectmix and saw that it only has 1 firewire port. You could use a Belkin fw400 to 800 cable to connect the PM to the 800 port of the imac and a normal 400 cable to connect the hard drive to 400 port. This keeps both devices running at 400 speeds and happy!

Also, turn off firewire networking under System Preferences.

I have a similar setup and experienced exactly the same issue you did, this is what I did. I got a 6 to 9 pin FW400/800 and plugged the project mix I/O into the FW800 port on the iMac, I plugged the FW400 drive (although not a Lacie, it's a Maxtor and it's only FW400) into the FW400 port.

I had success with this configuration on both an early 2007 iMac and a brand new one I just provisioned last week.

Do you have a good link to where I can purchase the cable you mentioned, 6 to 9 pin FW400/800?
