Default Digilink Connector???

does anyone know the name of generic type of serial connector used on the digilink cables? i need to make my machine room tidy and i just cant take having 9.5 extra feet of cable in a run of only 2.5 feet. i can build my own if i can just get the name of the darn connector, i have been searching threads in here, a ton of online connector wholesalers and all over the net but no luck!!! I cant believe digi would invest in developing and manufacturing its own connector (but with the way avids been hemmoraging money it would not surprise me). Can anyone out there help me??.... sheldon????

first of all there are many companies that use a cable that LOOKs the same, has the same connectors etc...
BUT dont be fooled these are not compatible, the digidesign digilink cable is proprietary it has a pinout that has crossovers incorporated into the cabling
if the computer is rack mounted with a 192 next to it the small jumper cable works fine otherwise the 12 ft. is the smallest cable

Hey "the dude" all I need is the modle number of the connector. I build all my cables myself. I know the pinout, if you know the name then just tell me. I was wiring studios before you knew what ram was.

Wow, the dude was trying to help you and that's the thanks he gets?

If you've been wiring studios for so long why don't YOU know the name of the connector?

I see you're new here, but you'll get a lot more help if you drop the attitude.

best,

Joe

Hey "damongold,"

You'll get more help if you aren't rude to people. "The Dude" was spot on with what he said and NEVER insulted you, yet you return with insults?

As "the dude" said... This cable is PROPRIETARY!! Digi keeps it a secret.

Drop the attitude, purchase a 12 footer and grab the wire ties. Done.

Sorry Joe, you beat me to it! I took too long editing out my agitation...

But I still meant everything I said, damongold.

Are you talking about the grey with round end??
The small round one is a generic Mac serial cable, used on G4s and earlier.

you all need to reread the thread, The DUD came off as condescending and arrogant. all i needed was the name or modle number for the connector and he goes off on some irrelevant tangent about third party components?? WTF if you cant answer my question dont waste my time!! it is obvious no one here knows (sorry to fire off after you attempt at help DIAFXMX) it was a simple question that only has one answer.

Damon, I don't know how you read that into The Dude's answer.

Condescending and arrogant? No way. On the other hand, your remark of "I was wiring studios before you knew what RAM was", sounds pretty arrogant to me.

People here try to help, and sometimes will go to the trouble to offer information even if that doesn't directly answer the question, but might help.

The Dude says the cable is proprietary, DIAFXMX gave you the info he had, and JFreak says it's the same one that Apogee uses.

Whatever.
