Default Glitchy Playback

I have had the Avid Fast Track Solo for about A year and a half now everyhting was working fine until about two months ago I went to record and during the recording the playback audio sounded glitchy and distorted, I have an HP Pavillion laptop with Windows 7 and record using Pro Tools express, I'm about to uninstall and reinstall both Pro Tools and the drivers for the Fast Track Solo. hopefully that will work, any suggestions are more than welcome.
