Default Does the master fader in pt produce additional parallel gain?

Lets say you have an audio track with audio playing in pt. Then you add a master fader. Does this increase gain by any small increment? I was wondering because you have the audio track automatically routed to the monitors and then you ALSO have the master fader routed to the monitors additionally.

I am guessing that the master fader just adopts the signal path rather than running parallel , right?

Might be a dumb question, but as a young audiophile I am really trying to learn as thoroughly as possible.

Thanks in advance everyone

The master fader is a 'multiplier' of the signal on the master fader bus.

not really sure what you mean by "multiplier". Do you mean that it is a copy of the signal meaning that it is a signal which ALSO plays with the original tracks routed to "monitors 1,2"?

No (as long as it's at unity)

You're thinking about it like it's an analog console - it's not; there are no 'additional' signal paths added by a master fader; it's just a control on the gain coefficient for whatever summing node it's addressing.

best,
rich

In fact, Master Faders are there whether you "make them" or not.

When you make one, you're just choosing to show it on the screen.

as the master fader inserts are POST fader..think of the master fader as one that can act as performing a "mastering" function..ie you did this mix and then in the master fader you add plugs like a mastering eng would master your 2 track mix ..post everything..at least that's how i use my master fader
