PT 2018.10 CPU Spikes
I recently upgraded my comp to the new 2018 MBP, which unfortunately comes with the latest High Sierra pre-installed. Since I can roll back to anything I’ve been getting the CPU spikes that Avid talks about being a known issue.
Any chance of getting this bug up in the priority chain for fixing? Super bummer and can be a major workflow killer |

Re: PT 2018.10 CPU Spikes
I'm in similar situation, Apple replaced a defective 2017 MBP with an 2018 model that came with Mojave...
Pro Tools 2018 was working without a hitch on previous machine, now with Mojave running PT2018.10 I keep getting CPU spikes causing DAE Errors and playback keeps halting at any buffer below 512 - I used to run it at 128 without a problem! (maxed out Mac Pro 5.1 with RME Fireface). I realize Mojave is not officially supported, and I wouldn't have upgraded myself, but what can we do when we get new Macs with latest OS installed??? I really hope Avid will release a Mojave-supported PT update very soon!

Re: PT 2018.10 CPU Spikes
Hi, welcome to the community.
You can ask Apple to provide you with a High Sierra installer download link, if the computer model you have has ever been sold with it. Annoying not to have those links available for everyone, but I guess it's in Apple's interests to gently force people to latest OS

Re: PT 2018.10 CPU Spikes
Thanks! Will High Sierra work better than Mojave? The OP seems to be having issue with it as well... it’s a major pain to downgrade to an older version of macOS but it might be worth a try if it works better.

Re: PT 2018.10 CPU Spikes
Avid hasn't released Mojave-compatible version yet, so if waiting is less annoying than downgrading you can just bear with it for now

Re: PT 2018.10 CPU Spikes
10.14.1 seems to have something done on the CPU throttling, it behaves much much much better on my system than I don't even remember which OS
(disclaimer: on my system means your mileage may vary...)

Re: PT 2018.10 CPU Spikes
I updated to 10.14.1, it made a small difference on my system, but what made a bigger difference was opening PT in low resolution... much more efficient and smoother overall operation. Now it only occasionally throws AAE error -9173 (while before low res it was unusable).

My initial gut feel is the cpu behavior is better on my MBPr 10.14.1. When running down at 64 buffers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
