Default Problem: Stylus RMX drag 'n' drop access violation

Recently installed Stylus RMX. Was following the Spectrasonics tutorial and got to the point where you drag a groove from the Stylus browser onto a PT Instrument track to get the MIDI for that groove. However. the moment my mouse hits the PT Edit window area, I get a bare-bones dialog with the PT icon that goes:

"An access violation has occurred" [OK]

When I first installed off the discs, Stylus didn't even come up. I then installed following driver as suggested on the Spectrasonics site (first did 1.5.1c)
Intel Mac OSX Stylus RMX 1.6.0 After this, I was able to bring up the plug-in dialog for stylus and am able to play around with the controls on board the RMX interface. But I haven't been able to use it in a track at this point. Also, wherever I had an option, I custom installed the Stylus files to my External FW drive, not the Mac HD.

Anyone seen this? Any suggestions/workarounds?

No one else in the same boat? Might the new cs7 update address this? I am leery of investing time and energy in upgrading without understanding the potential rewards....

Here's the troubleshooting I tried so far -
  1. Deleted digidesign databases from hard drive(s) & partitions
  2. Deleted various digi preferences files in User > Application Support >....
  3. Checked that SAGE (alias) has ReadWrite permissions
  4. Ran Verify Permissions on MacHD several times from OS X Install DVDs Disk Utility
  5. Reinstalled PT
  6. Also checked out the Pro Tools 6 Spectrasonics tutorial where they suggested a two-step process for getting the MIDI files - drag onto desktop and then import into workspace. However when I drag to the desktop I get the Ø sign and I am unable to "drop" onto any hard drive either. Is that more indicative of what might be going on?

I've not come across this before.

Have you tried contacting Spectrasonics, to see if they may have?

I'm going to try to test this later today...

I have been in contact with Spectrasonics for the last two weeks. Half of that time was spent playing voicemail-tag - me relaying my symptoms and results of actions they suggested, and them recommending new actions. Troubleshooting done so far include reinstalling PT, checking permissions on the SAGE folder alias, copying the SAGE folder from my external FW drive to the MacHD, repairing permissions with the Mac OS X install disc, checking the general digi recommendations for PT (power save, airport etc.) - however, no success yet.

Have you tried this from a new Admin account?

Did you check them for the actual SAGE folder? What are the current permissions set to?

Cheers

Well bukman, I gave up troubleshooting since it didn't seem like a solution was close and I didn't want to waste any more time not making music. To Spectrasonic's credit, they were responsive but after a few phone calls/voicemail tag it seemed as if this would not be an easy fix, at least for my situation. It's not as if I have all day to do this sort of thing, and with a full-time job (not music-related ) it's hard to try and squeeze those couple of hours at the end of the day to sit and write music, let alone break my head over software incompatibilities.

For now, I'm just using the RMX kits to make my own drum tracks and am trying other products.

At some point, I hope to pick this back up. RMX seems like a great product and I'm sure I have used like 20% of it's features at this point so if you have the bandwidth to work this issue, please share (even if it did not work).

Also share your system specs including other plugins installed in case we can establish a plug-in conflict of some sort. Also, I'd like to try installing on a "clean" Mac to see if it works there but don't have one myself to try that on.

Hi Tridev,

That really sux. Not having to build my own beats from scratch was the reason I bought this product.
I live in Australia (Sydney) so phone calls are going to be a nightmare to coordinate with Spectrasonics.

I also have the mac pro 8 core details below -

Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per processor): 12 MB
Memory: 6 GB
Bus Speed: 1.6 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MP31.006C.B05
SMC Version: 1.25f4

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

This is definitely not caused by plug in conflicts as I removed all but the Stylus plug in from the plug in folder, trashed the db and prefs and still occured.

Did Spectrasonics confirm this was a but in RMX?

Obviously I'm not at work right now, so I can't check with our liaison about this, so if you happen to know it will help a lot once I get in the office on Monday...
