Default Check For Updates?

I've been telling Pro Tools to check for updates since cs3 came out, really just for the sake of experiencing the new feature in action, but according to the update tool, my cs2 copy of Pro Tools is up to date.

Does it not look for cs updates?

Just curious, really.

They might consider cs updates to be pull-only...i.e. not pushed. A lot of companies only push heavily qualified versions out to customers, thinking it's better to leave well enough alone.

This one however apparently fixed some serious bugs, so I would think it should be pushed...maybe they will push it out when they know that most of the customers who got it are happy. I.e. only notify you when the timid would feel OK about it.

(Or maybe, more deviously, they only notify you when there are PAID updates. )

Does check for updates work AT ALL? I tried in the cs2 version with outdated AIR instruments but nothing happened!

I saw in some post on the duc somewhere that the update checker was not working at this time, for plugs or the app. Easy enough to test. Drop in an out of date plug and it easily passes the update checker. I think this was put in just to make us feel better when we run it! hah!

I am certain it won't notify of charged updates. I think this may well be illegal. Apple don't notify you of a new OS do they? Just dot-dot releases.

I think more likely the server has not been set up. AFAIK it's for checking CS and plugin updates.
