Default Mic preamp for dialogue recordings

Does anyone has a tip for a excelent preamp with built-in ad converter? (I found API, Focusrite, DBX and AMS Neve). We mainly record dialogue for film and animation.

TC Electronic Gold Channel is quite nice.

You just cannot beat those Neve preamps, but I have not heard the digital converter option for them. Gold Channel sounds great also, though, and has lots of processing and metering built in. Unfortunately, it has been around a while and only runs at 44.1 and 48kHz, but that is likely all you will ever be required to deliver for broadcast, film, and animation.

If you can, try(demo) The SSL XLogic Channel with optional A/D converter:

Xlogic channel

A\D option

When we bought a pair there was a promotion. You had the A/D for free. I haven't test the A\D card yet,(I have the apogee psx-100).

whatever you do, stay away form focusrite.
Their whole low end platinum range stuff is garbage. Thin sounding, noisy and no headroom.

Also have a look at Micstasy

RME

Great sonic quality, and you can MIDI-remote it.
Price seems OK for 8 I/P's with ADC.
They have a MIDI-remote app, which does work, although Beta.
In fact, PT thinks it's a PRE

Cheers

Hallo Danny,

Hoe gaat het. Waar in Nederland zit je?
Ik heb een vriend in Amsterdam die audio-post doet.
Hij heet Jeroen Goeijers. Zijn zus Karin is een filmmaker.

Hello. Let me add some options to what already has been suggested.

Apogee Trak 2. Or the Mini Me or the new Duet for that matter.
Lavry Blue
Grace Design Lunatec V3

That's if you really have to have the A/D conversion in the same unit as the mic pre. Otherwise if you want to separate the two you can look into mic pre's from Millenia Media, True or Earthworks

Small world, Mark, I've mixed a few docu's where Jeroen did the music. Hij is ook een prima muzikant. Danny, jij werkt toch bij MetaSound? (of hoe het nu ook al weer heet). Zit je al in LA Mark? Moedige stap!

groet, Peter

I use Avalon when going Analog in and the Aphex 1100 is a great sounding pre-amp with A to D conversion. We put it up against a dozen other preamps and it did very well.
