Default Going F....ing Crazy with my extra AD Card, please help!!!!

Hello everyone

Something kind of weird happened in my studio

I have 5 192s (big ass setup)

My first 192 has an AD card on the expansion port , so I can have 16 analog inputs, so far so good

Suddenly, one day, in the middle of a project, inputs 1-8 started showing some really weird behavior, like the VU's going crazy, and not showing up on the I/O setup, basically PT only saw 8 anolog inputs on this interface, and I though the card had gone south.

Do you follow me so far?

I call the tech and he says, most likely is the card, please bring the interface and we will take a look, so here I am, getting in my rack, disconnecting all kinds of cables, and started thinking, let me see which one is the card that does not work, so he can work faster, charge me less, whatever

I remove the 2 AD cards. and connect only 1,on the 192, and it shows on the the I/O setup having 8 analog inputs, and 8 digital, so I think, damn Im lucky, I nailed it at the first try. but because I want to be SUPER SURE, i swap cards, and to my surprise, PT recognize the second card, so I think, maybe is the Port that is not working not the card, so I connect the 2 cards again, and now PT sees my 2 cards as if nothing ever happened.

My question to all aff you, if you are still reading is, do this make sense??? is it possible that maybe an electrical charge or something made the card to fail? should I still take it to the tech and pay some money I dont need to spend? has anybody expirienced something like this before?

Any light will be appriciatted

Thanks in advance

Any way to test your cards in another computer? It may be the card slots on the mobo rather than the cards but only way to find that out is by trying them in another computer (unless you have the knowledge and test equipment necessary).

Just to make sure we understand each other , The cards Im referring to, are the AD card for the 192 interface, not sure what a new computer has to do with this, could you be more specific? thanks

Dirt Maybe? Oxidization? That You Shook Loose When You Moved The Cards....

Yep sorry dude, I seem to be on a different planet

Guess the best thing to do then is get the Avid Techs to check the interface if you aren't confident that it's not going to play up again (especially during a session).

The other option is to carry on winging it while it's still working. If I were using such an interface in a professional capacity though, I would be getting it checked for peace of mind.

Ok check this out

Last night I spoke with a friend that works for Avid, and he explained to me that once every blue moon, because of humidity, the connectors of the cards and the 50 pin cable , can loss contact, resulting on faulty communication, and he bet thats what happened to me

Im gonna wing it for a while to see whats up

Any how, thanks for taking the time to respond and trying to help
