Default Pro Tools Crackling / Static on playback when mixing

When I mix big sessions with a lot of tracks and plug ins in Pro Tools 9, I get random crackling / static noises. I uploaded a clip of a song I was working on today with an example of this problem: http://www.ocrecording.com/PT9Static.wav

I never had this problem with previous version of Pro Tools and I have mixed thousands of songs. Before the system would give me a dae error and stop when it was low of processing power.

It appears and random spots and increasing the buffer to max, taking off ADC and restarting the computer doesn't help. I even tried printing a lot of plug ins to the track and still had the same issue.

I got this problem with both the 003 and my lynx aes16e card. I'm pretty sure its nothing to do with either of those peices. Its most likely in the software or with my CPU.

I'm running W7 64 bit on an Asus p6t deluxe motherboard with 6 gigs of ram. Core i7 920 processor, Geforce 580 graphics. I'm using a lot of waves mercury plug ins, altiverb, massey and auto tune.

Anyone else getting these noises? Any ideas?

Yes!

I came to the forum just now to see if there is a crackling issue/fix. I thought I remembered seeing something about it before. Well anyway, off to search.

My issue is recording a Transfuser Instrument track to an Audio track via a bus connection. All of a sudden after it being OK for the entire time I've had Transfuser -- it's now recording with crackling and static. Dang.

I've experienced something similar. See my post here:

http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=289334

It seems like instead of kicking out a DAE error the session still plays but it produces distortion.

Same issue here. Cracking and popping my playback. Not necessarily in huge sessions. Sometime I wonder why I am still installing anything Pro Tools related. Nothing but problems everytime I upgrade.

Post a sandra. I didn't notice a difference between 8 and 9 except maybe improvement. HDD's and HDD contollers can cause crackling static, but you say only software upgrade, so not sure. Maybe motherboard, chipset, BIOS or SATA driver updates for Win7/motherboard are needed for PT9.
Mike.

Not just a software upgrade this time sorry. Although I have had problem with those too in digi past. Its a brand new Dell XPS 8100 machine. i7 with 8gb ram. Windows 64. I have a digi 003. Something tells me it has something to do with the drivers and the 003 that is causing everyone problems. The sessions run quick and fine besides popping and cracking on the playback and anything bounced. I tried installing the update for 9.01 and it wouldn't recognize my Digi 003 anymore so I had to uninstall and put back on 9.0.

I'm running a Sandra and will post it when it completes. Never ran one so hopefully I'll post it when it completes.

Both Sandra reports show network cards turned on. Net cards cause pops and crarckling.

Piano, I only see one hard drive listed. True? What's that "pocket drive" and why is it fat32? All your drives need to be NTFS basic.
