I wonder what the expected gains of having HT on for realtime applications is. Doesn't make sense.
HT as many other things are tools to be used, people who tend to buy CPUs with that feature know for what it is intended and why they need it.

Leaving aside what Protools does with cores and how it manages the cpu(when software works better without HT is because of bad coding) and also what the OS is capable of doing with it (Current OS lack convenient API calls for not letting processes with different priorities take resources from each other) HT is meant for those who need the high amount of cores (threats) depending on the workflow, Audio production is hardly ever one of them.

you can google what apps benefit of HT but to summarize, all the apps with predictable data like video vfx programing etc will always take advantage of multi threading, multitasking is one of them.

This is not so simple. Bad coding of what?

In case of PT ecosystem, you have the OS, you have the PT, and then you have the plugin. If performance is better without hyperthreading, which of the three is to blame?

OS makes the low-level calls to hardware and if other software work without a problem, we can rule it out easily. PT is asking for computing resource from OS so in case there are PT systems without HT problems, we can also rule it out. It all comes down to possibly one misbehaving plugin.

Wow, just found this !

Looking forward to giving it a shot.

I upgraded my Mac pro with server X5690 CPU's 3.46, does it matter regarding the hyperthreading?

Someone mentioned the X5690's getting hot @ 32buffer ?

Has anyone tried terminal ?
How to enable full mitigation for MDS in macOS

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac and immediately press and hold Command (⌘)-R or one of the other macOS Recovery key combinations on your keyboard.
  2. From the Utilities menu in the menu bar, choose Terminal.
  3. Type the following two commands, one at a time, at the Terminal prompt. Press Return after each one.
    nvram boot-args="cwae=2" nvram SMTDisable=%01
  4. How to revert the mitigation and reenable hyper-threading

To revert the mitigation and reenable hyper-threading processor technology, reset NVRAM and restart your Mac.
