Windows 7 Hardware Profile question
Hi there,
I just got my PT12 and am working on downloading/loading it. I went to setup a separate hardware profile for it on the Windows 7 machine am using and it looks like that is no longer a capability with this OS. What are we doing as far as this now? The last system I did was XP with PT8. How do we control resources and useage now? Al |

Re: Windows 7 Hardware Profile question
Haven't heard hardware profiles in a while. Did they go out with Vista? - I don't remember. You can disable devices in the Device Manager by right-clicking, so maybe you could create a different user for whatever devices are disabled. I haven't ever tried it and not sure that disabling a device is persistent across all users. There really is no way to assign resources such as interrupts and memory space - both are managed by BIOS and Windows.

Re: Windows 7 Hardware Profile question
Brief Google search shows HW profiles are not supported in Windows 7 anymore.
What exactly do you want to manage on HW level? Just be careful and aware that disabling some devices in BIOS could make sometimes OEM or OpenLicense Volume version of Windows think it's another new system. I just had such experience with my recently built computer when I was trying to disable secondary on-board NIC in BIOS to optimize resources but Windows 7 did not recognize the system and wanted me to activate it again. Sometimes it could not be done online and may require long time holding on the phone to get it re-activated with MS support. I did not try to re-activate but just I enabled that NIC and after restart OS has changed its status for the activated already. Still don't know if that was a bug or a feature |
