Digi 002 Rack + Control 8 or Digi 002 Full System
Dear All,
Thanks for your help yesterday with the 002 question.... Another question though - just exploring the options here... What would you prefer to have- A 002 Rack and a Control 8 surface to go with it.... OR The Full 002, which has the Control surface built-in.... The two options I think will do similar things overall, and are about the same price..... Any advantage either way though? Mark |

Re: Digi 002 Rack + Control 8 or Digi 002 Full System
Just my 2 cents worth here. I like my 002 table top unit. The faders are handy as is the monitor volume. The difference over a command8 and 002R-the rear panel of the table top unit is a bit easier to acces than the rack unit which might end up in a deep rack or otherwise harder to get at for patching or phantom power switching. It really depends on how you work.

Re: Digi 002 Rack + Control 8 or Digi 002 Full System
I think I honestly would prefer a 002R +command8 to the full 002 I purchased prior to news of the command 8's development.
It makes location recording easier, and I never really use my 002 as a standalone mixer.

I think you´re just a little more flexible with 2 units. They´re almost the same. I own a 002r and will get a Command8 or similar some time. If you´r on the road, you just need your Laptop and the Rack... good to go! whatever...

Re: Digi 002 Rack + Control 8 or Digi 002 Full System
I personnaly own a Digi002, and I never use the standalone mixer mode. Reasons are: 1)you cannot monitor the inputs separatly, the monitor unit being wired to the analog 1/2 outputs 2)no inserts.
002 is a great piece of gear, but as the controllers are NOT standard midi compliant (you can't use the unit as a standard midi controller when working outside Protools), Command8 + digi002R will remain a better choice. BTW, as Digi released a MME audio driver to use the 002 with third party software, It should be possible to release a Firewire MIDI driver or a 002 Firmware update to add the midi controller feature to the 002. Hello, Digi, Where are you??? cheers |

Thanks All - good answers!
So, let me get this right, in general the 002 Rack + Control 8 is both preferred and a little more portable? Mark |
