Default How well does PT perform on G4 800 mHz?

Hi all,

I am currently a PC user, but I have the option of switching to a mac G4 800 mHz with 512 MB memory. But I am not sure about the number of tracks I can use. Of course this is all dependable on the number of plugins etc. but is anybody able to give me an impression of what is possible on a G4 as described above?

Thanks!!

i had one of them, could get about 20 or so tracks with an eq or compressor here and there... its about as much power as my 1G P3 machine had...

I have a 733mhz G4 and I can use 24 tracks with ease with EQ in atleast 12 of them and 3-4 Compressors with one Reverb.

I have a Powermac G4 800 like you. However, I still use OS9, PT 5.2.1 which is 32 tracks. (the most stable configuration IMO)

I can use 32 tracks, as long as I'm able to commit to certain things. Obviously I can't use plugins on every track, but after getting what I want, I then use audiosuite to free up memory and continue.

I find the G4 800 to be flawless, and it was the very first computer that was worth a [bleep] for the 001, which I still use.

I still use it daily, with no problems and it's been over 3 years.
