Default How about some Pro Tools 10 love ....

I know I know .... I work for Avid blah etc but believe me ... I also consider myself first and far most a USER !!!

I have Pro Tools 10 and Pro Tools 10 HD up and running. I've been a long time Pro Tools user as well and I think I can confidently and without blushing state that Pro Tools 10 is the best release since 7.2.

Why 7.2 ? Well because 7.2 was the major automation overhaul and that for me as an Icon user totally changed the way I mix in Pro Tools ... and until this very day I think the combination of one of the Icon controllers in a pure mixing environment is unmatched by anything out there as far as complete integration and workflow.

But ... 7.2 as many of us will remember was also a very vivid / rock solid and snappy version that just felt good. You know ... you could launch it in the morning and you knew you could count on it to watch your back.

Pro Tools 10 gives me that same feeling all over again. It is snappy / vivid / extremely performant and fast.

Disk cache ROCKS !!!!

I did a couple of silly tests the other day. Not really real life stuff but I think it illustrates some unmentioned powers of Pro Tools 10 very well.

Macbook Pro hooked up to studio network. Opened up a 48 track surround session logged into the Icon Mac Pro. Changed the outputs to L and R to match my MBP speakers and BAM ... instant playback / loops / jumping cursor real time all over the place / editing / dragging stuff around during playback etc etc ... really trying to make it crash .... it just wouldn't crash. Not even when I opened up that SAME session at the same time on the Icon system and had it playing back in the control room at the same time

Then decided to create a 64 track session from my MBP, directly on the Icon system audio drives ... and record 64 tracks .... As if Pro Tools 10 was laughing at me ... didn't even blink.

And probably the silliest thing I did ... create a session directly on my ftp and record 1 track ... ok ... eventually that stopped after a minute or so recording but hey ... told you it was silly stuff right ?

Anyways ... I'm not here to judge, nor here to comment on any of these other threads ... but please ... don't condemn what I personally think is the best Pro Tools release of the last 5 years. Many of us long time Pro Tools users know that historically Avid is not the fastest company to throw features in their releases. Nor was Digidesign. Anyone out here still remember 5.1 ? And the discussions that went on between 4 and 5.1 and how scandalous it was that Pro Tools still didn't offer surround ?

Well then at some point they did and in one blow wiped rear ends with anything that was already out there. Until this very day you will find it hard to find any daw out there that surpasses the surround capabilities of Pro Tools in many ways.

The same goes for automation .... yes 7.2 was long overdue but boy did they nail it down when they finally did the automation overhaul.

What I'm trying to say here is that I've learned over the years that Avid is not a company that will just throw features in their software releases and give it a shiny GUI just so they can say that the feature is in there. Most of us will have to admit that if a feature finally does make it into Pro Tools it is done on a level and with added functionality you will rarely see from any other daw out there. And the same goes for Pro Tools 10.

I would love to sit down with each and everyone of you and show you myself but unfortunately that is not possible. The alternative however IS out there now. Go download the DEMO version and judge for yourselves. If you don't like it then I rest my case but I'm pretty sure many of you who hesitate WILL like it.

One last request before I hit the submit new thread button ... please don't ruin it by starting yet another flame war about politics or policies. Let's leave that to the other threads ....

Thanks

Thanks for the review Chris. It was refreshing to read a thread about PTHD 10 that wasn't about price. I'm looking forward to putting PT10 through the paces myself.

For me it's the simple and lesser known features that all add up to speed of production. I love the interleaved audio now. It makes it very easy to bring the audio into other apps for processing, and then back into PT. Multiple audio formats and bit depths are also a big plus. I'd love to see this expand in the future to include some open source standards such as FLAC etc.

Though I'm a few days away from having 10 myself, I am excited and looking forward to it.. there are a raft of new things I want to try out in it..

I've gone on about pricing, and I think fairly.. but I love PT.. Have for years and will continue to...

I have worked with this release and put it though its paces and can honestly say that it by far exceeds any version that has come before.

Hi,

I can second this. Running PT 10 HD now since almost a week. It's very stable, very fast and *simply works*

At the moment I'm working bout 14 hours per day doing all kind of arranging (with VIs, real musicians etc.), importing tons of stuff from other sessions, recording, mixing and so on .... RL circumstances due to a deadline on Sunday.

ClipGain feature and the AudioSuite handle thing speeded my workflow up massively !

I'm a happy PT10HD user (price & company policy is another story) !

Very good work & congrats to the developers & the beta testers: You did an awesome job

STOP DELETING MY POSTS.

Why dont you respect the freedom of speech. My comments were related to his point that you shouldn't blame the product for the failings in the people behind it... I disagree. IF I Agreed you wouldn't have deleted me, twice.

STOP DELETING ME BECAUSE YOU DISAGREE.
