Default Protools for Windows Vista

They posted a article about Protools for Windows Vista back in February saying the Vista compatible would be available in the summer. Which summer are they referring to, the summer of 08? I haven't heard a thing since. I have a system with Vista that has all of the memory parameters that would be required, but how long will I be stuck with using my old slow XP computer?

Summer doesn't officially end until September 22 2007. They've still got almost two months to deliver. My guess is that it won't be even half that long.

I hope not, I built my new system specifically for my studio and have had to wait for months to finally use it. I have installed my old Magix on it in the meantime (I know, I know, Magix is for amateurs.

Why would you build a system specifically for your studio, then install an incompatible OS? I don't understand that. Don't get me wrong; I'd really like to see the Vista compatable version of PTLE, especially if it's 64-bit so we can add tons of memory. But I'm not all that eager to get in on the bleeding edge of it, either.

I agree. If you built a system for your studio, why on earth would you install Vista? Even when PT does become Vista compatible, I would highly recommend a dual boot system (Vista, XP). There's only a handful of hardware (MIDI peripherals, controllers, mice, keyboards, etc) you can use with it, and only a handful of third party plugins.

IMHO, it will be at least another year before using PT on a Vista system is a viable solution, both for practicality and financial reasons.

I built the system before I had Pro Tools. At the time, I wasn't aware of any compatibility problems. Had I know, I would have just got a Mac.

Why don't you either create a dual boot system or simply reformat and install XP for now? Once Vist is available, you can simply reinstall it.

The liscense and activation code has already been used. There isn't much I can do right now but wait or find some software that is compatible with Vista. I still have my old computer, but it's slower, it's beginning to have problems, and the disk space is limited.

If you're gonna reinstall vista back on the same comp when pro tools 7.4 comes out..there should be no activation license issues what so ever...so if you have an XP disk...and you want pro tools...you know what to do..you can just reinstall Vista later with no problems
