Default Upgrade PT10 HD3 to PT Ultimate HDX

I’m just about ready to upgrade from a PT10 HD3 system to PT Ultimate with HDX card (also an upgraded Mac Pro). I’m curious as to whether I’ll be able to open my PT10 sessions on the new system, and how the plugins and mix will translate etc?

I use mostly the stock plugins (DSP) where possible and a handful of native plugins (Waves and soundtoys).

The mix translates just fine except for the plugins that are not updated or didn’t follow the path to HDX. It just depends on what plugins you are using. The main drawback is that many manufacturers have not gone to DSP and created Native versions of their plugins. If this doesn’t bother you then you are good. Just go ahead and upgrade whatever plugins that you need to upgrade. Oh and by the way, the Soudtoys presets do not transfer to the Native versions of the plugins. You get an error message stating that the preset was created by an earlier version of the plugin so, unfortunately, those do not translate unless of course you are already using the latest Native version. I, for one, still use the TDM versions when using the P Tools 10, cards maxed out in a chassis system, which is what I still use most of the time anway to make records and mix as I go. I am feeling more and more left behind though and will probably fully transition to the HDX system soon so that I can take advantage of the newer OS and plugin updates.

As long as audio in the old sessions is in WAVE format and not SD II, things should open fine. MOST plugins will also be okay, except for the few that got nixed, or big re-writes(now its a single delay plugin instead of Short, Long, Extra-long......).
