Default Error 6101 - maybe a solution

I have had a huge amount of error 6101 - actually it was almost impossible to work at all - especially with video. I have had remote support from Avid and it seems that we might have "solved" my problem.

After several attempts - downloading PT 12.4, changing playback engine and so on - we unticked the "Minimize Additional I/O Latency" box in the Playback Engine Menu. So far - one days work - I have had NO 6101 errors, so maybe this could be helpfull to other PT users.

Did you stay with 12.4 or are you on 12.5.2?

I tried both. Now I work in 12.5.2 and so far no problem with 6101 errors.

This looks like it may very well be the answer we've all been looking for. I just spent the last 2 days doing audio post for a 13 minute video - The SAME video that's been giving me headaches to 2 weeks. It would not play for 3 seconds without a 6101 error. CPU was never taxed for more than 5%.

I've investigated everything. My next step was to swap out the stock Hard Drive in my Mac Book Pro. No other suggestions helped.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for this discovery.

The Switch to flip:

Setup
- Playback Engine
-- Host Engine
--- Minimize Additional I/O Latency.

Reboot Computer. (may be unnecessary)
- Start Session
- No issues. NONE.

Great to hear. I have had no 6101 errors since I changed this setting. You don't have to reboot it's an instant fix.

"we unticked the "Minimize Additional I/O Latency" box in the Playback Engine Menu."

What interface are you running? This option does not appear on my HD/Native rig

Now my PT is 2018.12.0 and I still use the solution. Right now in a 2 1/2 hour video session - no trouble at all. I don't dare change the setting:).

Only available if you first select "Ignore Errors During Playback".
