Default Which Mbox Models Support LLM with Digital Inputs?

Avid apparently thinks people are too stupid to care about this near-essential feature, and they don't even mention it in the "details" sheets.

Anyone know? In the Mbox 2 family, only the Pro model supported LLM, but what about the Mbox 3 family? Only the Mini model has a mix knob, so I assume both the Standard and Pro models support LLM in the version 3 family?

But then the other question is - is LLM supported for all inputs, or only the analog ones?

Many thanks if anyone knows.

AFAIK, only the firewire interfaces can use Low Latency Monitoring(selected at the bottom of the OPTIONS menu). The solution for the USB versions is to use the MIX knob. The MIX knob does NOT affect the SPDIF input(since it actually routes the incoming analog signals directly to the outputs/headphones). If you can select a buffer of 64, you should be in a good place. The manual should really answer all your concerns

You would think, but I haven't been able to find a manual that addresses this. It really ought to be easier to find.

I'm aware of how the mix knob works, but I don't want to use one. One thing you said doesn't seem to jive though, the Mbox 3 (standard) uses USB, but it has no mix knob. If it doesn't support LLM, does it really rely only on using a low enough buffer? That seems like a stretch, though maybe they just want people to buy insanely fast computers.

Also - anyone know where to get info on what signal path LLM uses? Is the incoming signal split into two streams, one sent to the computer, and the other converted D to A inside the interface then routed straight to the monitor output?

The mBox 3 does support LLM.
The reason it no longer has a mix knob is because it's now like the MOTU interfaces.
It now use the mBox Control Console which is like MOTU's CueMix software.

It controls your routing, effects etc and separates the hardware routing from the software routing.

#41, have you read the reference guide pertaining to LLM?? If I remember right it does go over all of LLM's features and limitations, including routing.

Thanks - did you find this out because you own one, or is there literature on it somewhere?

I'm not familiar with the MOTU interfaces, what do you mean when you say that it "controls your routing"?

No, I'd love to! Where can I find it? For some reason I'm having a hard time finding technical documents for Avid hardware.

the reference guide should already be loaded on your computer in .pdf format. It's loaded in the installation process...

Ah, you mean the general PT reference guide...I could look in that, I wouldn't expect to find signal routing information in there. You sure?
