Default Can't get a steady click track

I'm using an Eleven rack & have the most updated Pro Tools LE 8.05 I think.
The problem I have is I can't get a steady click track. What I would like is an 8 or 4 count before recording starts at my tempo usually 120 BPM & then have it continue at that same tempo nothing fancy. I can start a brand new session set my tempo to 120 BPM set to quarter notes & an 8 count preroll. When I hit the record button the preroll I'm not sure what count or tempo it is at. I get 3 very slow beats then 2 faster beats & recording starts somewhere between beat 2 & 3. when recording starts I get beats a little faster but still not 120 BPM this lasts about 20 seconds then I get a tempo of about 200 BPM for the rest of recording. The click has never worked for me but now I want to get a little more serious about stuff & would like to have a click i can follow. Since i always have this mess even when starting a brand new session I am wondering is there some sort of tempo or click reset button. I try to follow what is in the manual but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

Are you using a default set up click track or did you setup an instrument track with a virtual instrument like boom or BFD lite? You may just getting an internal sequence from the VI and need to change the midi notes to play a single note and nor a sequence. Just try moving the midi notes down until you find the single beats. With BFD lite you may need to disable "Respond to song start" -- search for that string on DUC.

I guess I am just using a default Click track It is the one that is already there when opening a new session using the existing template. no virtual instrument thatI am aware of & no MIDI involved that I set up.

Mmm running out of ideas here.

Are you using a conductor track? (blue conductor icon lit up in the transport window). If so uncheck that and see what happens. That does not explain how a new session has adjusted tempo however.

Unless somebody else here has a simple idea then I'd be tempted to trash preferences, create a new session and see if that works.
