Default iTunes-Windows 7-Digi002-Bit Perfect?

Hi all, finally upgraded to Windows 7.

Was happy to see that 7 now recognizes the Digi002 as a playback device. I was having fun running iTunes > Digi002 > RME ADI-2 > HS50Ms.

However, I'm wondering if I'm getting bit perfect audio this way. The computer is still mixing audio streams from different sources this way, but as long as I'm playing just one audio stream, and have all the iTunes nonsense disabled, would this be BP? It sounds pretty good.

Just read something about Windows Audio Exclusive Mode but haven't been able to figure it out yet.

Thanks!

Okay, I'll display my ignorance. What is "bit perfect"? And why does it matter? And can anyone hear when its not?

You know, you can just Google things when all you need is a definition...

According to this
http://www.mp3car.com/the-faq-empori...t-perfect.html

Asio drivers are Bit Perfect.
But this is a new terminology for me.

So doesn't that answer your own question? :?

Itunes and the 002 have nothing to do with each other. Maybe you want to do your own googling.

No, it doesn't answer the question, apparently you need to learn how digital audio works.

Just because an application does not have an ASIO driver does not mean you cannot get bit perfect audio out of it.

And iTunes, as I already said, can be played back through a Digi002 just fine. Do you even know what you meant by "have nothing to do with each other"? What does ProTools "have to do" with any interface until you use them together?

Go roll your eyes in the mirror.

There's another one for ya.

Itunes is in no way "bit perfect." I'd say very few are. Try a few different ones, and you'll notice almost none of them sound the same as they do coming out of Pro Tools.

But have you actually tested it, found information on it from a valid source, even tried it...?

I was really just wondering if someone out there had much concrete knowledge of iTunes output, to save me the time of testing it myself. But since I'm just getting eye rolls from people who don't know any better...guess I'm gonna be testing it out. I thought people would be more interested in the nuts and bolts of the world's most popular playback engine.

Don't know about under windows, but there was a lengthy discussion on the Metric Halo mailing list about something similar on macs. Seems as though it depends. If the file you are playing back is set to the same sample rate as your interface it can play back bit perfect. However once you play anything at a different sample rate iTunes starts to do SRC. Once that happens even if you play something that matches the sample rate of the interface iTunes will still apply SRC. So it can but probably isn't most of the time. At least under OSX. And this is something iTunes itself is doing not OSX. That part was confirmed so I bet windows is the same.
