Default Advice on running an introduction to PT

Hey there,

I've been asked to do a one hour introduction to PT to a small group (less than 20) of teenagers.

The thing that I'm struggling with is what should I show them in the hour?

The class will be in a small computer lab with 12 computers that have a Behringer mixer and Behinger mic connected. So I could show them how to record audio in for example, but it's not like we can mic up any instruments.

Does anyone have any ideas on what would be the first ten things you would show kids in PT?

Thanks in advance

Dave

Is it a Pro Tools introduction or a DAW introduction which happens to be using Pro Tools?

That's an excellent question. I think it's an intro to Pro Tools.

I would take the PT 101 book or some other quality intro. to PT book and use that as a guide. Given the time frame of the lesson, condense it down by eliminating what's unessential, and supplement with info. that the 101 leaves out--i.e., info. that you may only learn in real world situations.

Hopefully that makes some sense and helps?

I found teaching kids of that age that they wan't to get involved hands on.

1. may be usefull to show them the basics of generating there own beats.

2. get them to generate a bass line.

3. whatever is next...

It's probably not a good idea to talk at them for too long, in 1 hour you can show them the DAW then get them to dig into it.

Iv'e done this with cubase and reason, but the best results were with ejay as they were up and running at speed.
