Default Midi and Venue Profile

Let me preface this by saying that I'm a lighting guy that has been taxed with automating lighting control with the Profile.....

With that out of the way, I have been trying to read up on the MIDI implementation on the Profile in the manual and haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. We want to be able to trigger our lighting console with Midi Show Control from the Profile so as snapshots are changed, the appropriate lighting cue will be sent. I haven't been able to discover what strings are available out of the profile in order to see what will work for us.

I can take in MSC only...not Notes.

Anyone have any ideas or is this even possible?

Hi Jon,

The D-Show software that runs VENUE systems supports the following MIDI message types embedded in snapshots:

Note Off
Note On
Poly Key Pressure
Control Change
Program Change
Channel Pressure
Pitch Bend
MMC Stop
MMC Play
MMC Fast Forward
MMC Rewind
MMC Eject
MMC Chase
MM Pause
MMC Locate

It does not support any form of Sys Ex messaging. Will the lighting console accept a standard program change to fire the cue?

Thanks Sheldon.

As of now, it does not support Notes (it's coming...just not yet). The only Midi it will take is Midi Show Control (SysEx) messages.

We're going to try the "Chase MTC" for scene changes (1 hour increments for each scene) and give that a shot.

You might try grabbing a MOTU MTP AV off of ebay. Get the serial version which you can pick up for a little more that a hundred bucks. You can set it up to receive a message from the Profile and then change it into sys ex. It would take some programming and would be a bit of work, but at least you're not waiting for someone else to implement a design that you need now.
