I keep two of my systems current and two of my systems stay where they are (at least as long as the TDM cards keep working...)

I left mine lapse about a year ago (am on 12.5.2) and so far I congratulate myself on that decision. Money well not spent.

Once you decide to go 10.12 (Sierra) you will congratulate yourself again for money well spent

Not quite sure what you are trying to say, but I am using the license at home on my rig with 10.12.3 and at the studio with 10.10.5. On Sierra it is working even smoother, because the choppy graphics are gone (no more beam sync issues).
