360 VR sound
I'm being asked to do a VR project with 360 sound. I'll be doing sound design and mixing. It's the first such project I'm being asked about and I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
I have 5.1 Mixing capabilities but it looks like the end result is based on 4 mono files embedded with something called Ambix to simulate direction change by manipulating Volume, Panning & reverb. Thanks in Advance. |

OK, it looks like this is for a GearVR stem which is a mobile platform of Oculus.
The tech mentioned something about AmbiX. |

Ambi-X is the Ambisonic surround format used for 360.

ambiX is one option. There's also FuMa and Dolby Atmos for VR, as well as higher order ambisonics formats that Facebook use.

i can second the recommendation for FB 360 Spatial Workstation. I've used it on several projects that have shipped to multiple 360 video formats and it was extremely easy to use, the support is great, and the end product was great.
They just added a bunch of new features, including remote video playback, so you can playback the video on a separate system on a VR headset slaved to your DAW, which I had been asking about for a while now. Prior to it's release I sound designed / mixed a 360 video for playback on a gear VR with an ambisonic mix and had to use reaper and a bunch of weird free plugins to get it done. Nothing against reaper, but The FB 360 plug is a lot smoother and easier. I haven't tried audioease's plugin because, well... i'm totally satisfied with the FB one, and it's free, so yeah.
