Default Re: How do I separate audio and PT files across different drives?

Hi-
You are right in installing PT on your system drive.
Now, you want to save, and run, all your session files (which will, by default, include the audio files) on your second, audio /storage drive.
That way your system drive is only concerned with running the program while the second drive can be busy feeding and saving data.
This is much more efficient than one drive having to access the data to perform both tasks at once.
(If you're like me and have a large system drive, you can use the free space to backup your session files from the storage disk, but as I said, you should always run your session files from the second drive.)
One neat feature, new to 5.3.1, is that PT will default back to the last file location in the Open Session box. Makes life much easier.
Previous versions defaulted to the c: drive, so you had to switch to your storage drive every time you opened PT and went to locate a session folder.
Hope this helps.

Excellent. That's easier and clears up my confusion, thanks.

Default How do I separate audio and PT files across different drives?

I just installed a new hard-drive to put all my audio files on. My question is: is theres a way for me to set it up so that when I open a new session, my audio files folder will show up on my audio drive, while my other session files and stuff remains on my system drive. Or do I have to relocate the files every time I open a new session? Also, is this the best way to segregate files? And what about if there are QuickTime files, where should they go for optimum performance?

I have a P3, on Windows XP, PT v5.3.1

Thanks in advance.

Scott
