Default Adding channels

Which A/D/A converters are you guys using to expand the 001/002 to 16 channels? Which ones sound the best sounding for the in the mid-high $$ range? (other than $Apogee$) Also, can you use 1-8 analog/9-16 ADAT and have a 2 additional S/PDIF I/Os? or it a ADAT or S/PDIF, not ADAT and S/PDIF. What I want is the ability to record or playback 16 (or better yet 18) channels at once. I have also heard that the max resolution is 24/48 for ADAT. Does the 002 have this limitation or is the ADAT interface 24/96 compatable? THANKS!!!!

You can play back 32 channels at once. You can record a max of 18, 8-analog, 8-lightpipe and 2-spdif.

ADAT limitation is 48k. I'm not sure check the Digi site, you may be able to do 4 tracks at 96k. (Some ATAT interfaces can some can't)

My preference for Lightpipe interface is the Focusrite Octapre. Others are having good success with the Digimax ones. IF all you need are line level I/o, the Alesis AI-3 is an excellent choice. Avoid the Behringer.

Nope - 48k max on the adat. If you want to do 96k sessions, you have 8 inputs.

Yup! The specs are written clearly in the website. The ADAT lightpipe in Digi002 or Digi002R is just a standard 8ch. 24/48 protocol and it can't take in 24/96 signal. Well, some other machines have 8ch of 24/96 I/O because they are using SMUX, in which, one ADAT lightpipe carries only 4ch. However, more machines are coming up with that digital options.

Can the S/PDIF I/O be used at the same time as the ADAT I/O for 18 inputs? I'm looking at a line level A/D/A converter. Any other options to look at other than the Alesis?

Thanks

Bud
