Default Pro Tools MP3 problem

New to Pro tools. Have just purchased the MP3 option authorization code to install in Pro Tools Le 8.05 but am unable to use it

This is the instructions on installation.

"Authorizing the MP3 Export Option
Using an Authorization Code
To authorize the MP3 Export Option using an
authorization code:
1 Launch Pro Tools.
2 Open a session.
3 Do one of the following:
• Click on a region and choose Region List >
Export Regions as Files.
– or –
• Make an Edit selection and choose Bounce
to Disk.
4 Select MP3 as the File Type.
5 Click Export (in the Export dialog) or Bounce
(in the Bounce to Disk dialog).
6 In the Pro Tools MP3 Option dialog, click Authorize."

After #4 however I receive this error code -

"The MPS option can not be installed because: Module initialization failed for MP3.dll. The MP3 demo period may have expired."

I am unable to enter the authorization code. Please advise how this can be done.

Thank you.

Working from distant memory here....Open the iLok manager and look for your MP3 option. If you see 2 of them, and 1 is an expired demo license, delete that one. It can be tough dealing with software that old(starting in PT10, the mp3 feature is built-in)

Found the solution MP3. There is an MP3 Setup software for Pro tools ver 8. While searching I found it by accident....

Another problem I have, perhaps you can help, is that after 'Bouncing to disk' and converting none of my files will play. They run but there no sound out of laptop. Suggestions? Been fiddling with all the 'bounce' options to no avail.

Did you actually run the installer for the MP3 optional software?

EDIT: Opps see you found that. Which is what you would also find by just Googling your error message: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...ssage/en363799

We cannot guess what you are doing.

You are exporting known good audio to MP3, what are all the export settings? What exactly are you bouncing one track, a final mix, etc?

If you do that same exact bounce not to a non-MP3 format does it play OK?

Does audio play as expected as you do the bounce?

What software are you trying to play the mp3 back in? and do other mp3s play back in that OK?

So I make a single audio, mono track, and can listen while recording and after, before exporting, through headphones while using Pro tools.

Tried bouncing in various formats, .wav. AIFF, now MP3. same result. It will not play through the laptop speakers when even when pro tools is running or when shut down and mbox off.

For playback I tried using Windows media player.

You are really exporting or bouncing? You keep using both words.... they are not the same.

If exporting are you selecting a region to export?

Can you play any other MP3s though Windows Media Player?

Just try *bouncing to disk* (not export) that audio one track. Be very clear what source for the bounce you are selecting.

Can you can take the bounce file and re-import it into Pro Tools on an audio track? If that plays then the export is OK. If not you are likely doing something wrong. e.g. selecting a source for the bounce that has no audio on it.

If that still does not work we need *all* the parameters/setting you are using in the bounce. Include a screen shot of needed showing the bounce source, and all other parameters.

Watch this video and see if you get the sound in your session after BTD.

Make sure you have set up everything under I/O settings in PT aswell and that you have not muted your bounce source track or routed that track wrong.

What Darryl said above:

Learn the difference between "Export" and "Bounce".
It's real tough to diagnose problems if simple terms are used incorrectly.

If it helps; "Export", is when you chose a clip or group of clips and render them somewhere else.
No real time plugins or parallel effects go with it.

"Bounce", is when you make a time selection, and all of the tracks get rendered to usually a stereo file that sounds like what you were just listening to.
A "Bounce" is a mix down.

Hope this helps and hope you get your playback squared away.
