Process Knobs Slow to Load
I've encountered a problem since upgrading to Pro Tools 2018.7
After opening a session, everything seems to come up on the S6 just fine, but changing functions on the process knobs takes a lot more time than it used to. About 5 seconds for a single strip, 20 seconds with 'All' enabled. I know, for sure, this is happening when switching to inputs (i have PREs assigned to most inputs). I'm unable to confirm if it's the same with other functions. Once it's lagged through the switch once, it's fine until I open another session. I wouldn't call it a major issue, but it's certainly annoying.

Re: Process Knobs Slow to Load
I can confirm that it happens with EQ and DYN as well, but it's not as long with those with 'All' on - a few seconds.
Also, loading one function doesn't seem to affect the initial load time of the other functions.

Re: Process Knobs Slow to Load
Greetings,
I think the first important question would be how large is your S6 configuration and how is your network configured? Isolated surface network? Versions of S6 & Pro Tools? Thanks. Jeff |

32-fader, 5-knob, w/displays, M40 v18.3.0.244 (same for WSControl)
Port 1 of the MTM direct to port 2 of my Mac Pro (late 2013). Pro Tools v2018.7.0 Mac OS v10.12.6

Re: Process Knobs Slow to Load
So - you are using the Master Module DHCP server enabled on Port 1 - which is connected to the Ethernet switch inside your S6 Frame and your Workstation is connected to the same switch, yes? I presume all of your internet, local network and such is on NIC 1 and your S6 is on NIC 2 on the Mac trash can? Are you running WSControl by itself or in combination with EuControl?

Re: Process Knobs Slow to Load
There's definitely something wrong as it only takes a max of 1 second on that sized system here and about 5 when All is on. The system caches the knobs the first time that is why its near instant after. In the next release, there's an option to cache all knobs on session load which makes opening a session longer but everything is then instant.
It still doesn't explain why your S6 is taking longer than usual though. How big is the session? |

Re: Process Knobs Slow to Load
65 tracks. Using about 40 channels of PRE. It's a live recording/broadcast mix situation.

Re: Process Knobs Slow to Load
I wonder if the Pre's have something to do with it. Have you tried a new session of say 80 tracks with channel strip only...is this faster?

I think you're on to something about it having to do with the Pre's... I made a new session with 80 mono audio tracks. I put an Avid Channel Strip on each channel. I set all the inputs to a single bus. With this setup (and 'All' engaged), all functions, including input, load in equal time - about 7 seconds. When I assign the tracks to individual inputs with pre's assigned, loading input takes around 45 seconds. If I change all the inputs from one configuration to the other, not all of the knobs will fully change to the new configuration - they just go blank. Most will show correctly. This behavior is the same with eq and dyn. I don't know if it's useful to know, but the status graphs for the process modules only peak at about 1% CPU, and memory and network are steady at 16.7% and 0.0% respectively. Also, this hasn't been an issue before. Only since upgrading to Pro Tools 2018.7.
