Default What if when you were trashing preferences...

you also trashed your Structure and Mini-Grand preference plist in the process? You would be an ignoramus that's for sure. But is there something you could do short of clean uninstall/reinstall that I could do to recover precious libraries?

Running PT 8.031cs
Mac OS OSX 10.5.8

Many thanks in advance for any help you could lend a WheelTARD.

I know it seems obvious, but have you emptied the trash on the mac? If not, you could restore those specific files. I'm sure you've followed the procedures and emptied the trash and restarted, but thought I'd mention it just in case. I usually copy any preference files to a folder outside of their preferred home before deleting them just for these cases. Good luck.

I would just uninstall Pro Tools and re-install it from scratch(with a lesson learned the hard way). This will not affect your sessions at all.

Okay, so I just did the ol' clean uninstall. When reinstalling, do I simply go to my Avid account and install directly from there? Or (Gawd help me), resort to my original disks?

Or to put it, hopefully, more intelligently, can I simply download the "Pro Tools M-Powered 8.0.3 Full Installer (Mac OS 10.5/10.6 for Intel) does not support PowerPC?"

Again, sorry for being such a nitwit, but I haven't had the pleasure of going down the uninstall/reinstall road yet.

I always thought when you trash a plist it just creates a new one on the next launch of the program

Me too. However, this was the first time that PT couldn't find the mini Grand or Structure library of sounds or preferences.

If I don't hear fom anyone I'm gonna do a full reinstall from my Avid account.Wheels

Are you sure it was just the plist files and not .big files or .dpm files?
What was the path of the files you deleted?

I'm pretty certain it was only the digi- plist files. I was doing the ol' maintenance trash preferences procedure which I've done before. And done successfully too. However, with this one, once completed, I had created new song/project and had just instantiated an instrument track. I wanted a piano but kept getting an error message that said browser could not locate files.

As I mentioned earlier, I did the "clean uninstall" and now just want to know how to go about the reinstall. I see that even with the uninstall, the Pro Tools folder is still in the Applications folder on my mac's hard drive. My question is what is the proper procedure for reinstalling Pro Tools? Do I install from my digi account -- Pro Tools M-Powered Full Installer? Or is there another route? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Again, sorry to be so thick.
