Default Can I run PT 2018 Ultimate?

I have a MacPro Mid 2012 running PT 12.8.3, It's a 2x2.4 6-core with 32 gigs of ram and an ATI Radeon HD5770, 1024mb running OS 10.13.4.
I probably wouldn't need Ultimate, but I'm paying for it on subscription and might as well have it if it will run OK. I have an HD I/O interface and Sync HD, an SSD system drive and fast OWC drives for everything else. Can I run Ultimate? Appreciate your help!

If you want to use the HD i/o Interface you need a HDX or HD Native pcie or the HD Native thunderbolt box as the old TDM cards doesn’t work above HD10.

You also need a digilink license for that so check that it is included in your Ultimate license. Otherwise it’s a $299 expense.

I neglected to mention I have an HDX card in my MacPro now plus outboard for the HD I/O 8x8x8 and Sync HD. Does that improve my chances for success with Pro Tools Ultimate? I am running 12.8.3 now and it seems very happy in OS 10.13.4

So your current software is 12.8.3 HD? Yes? "Ultimate" is simply "HD" in the new numbering scheme(and you MUST use the Ultimate version if you wish to come up to date. The non-Ultimate version of PT will not work with the HDX card or HD IO box.

Can you run Ultimate? Probably, but this is the important thing to answer:
Can the tower run the proper version of OSX that is compatible with the version of Ultimate you have access to?

Having said that, I would not make any change without a backup strategy. If the update goes sour, you want an easy way to get back to your current working setup. Then, might you get more bang for your buck by upgrading the CPU to the fastest 6-core, or going all the way and upping your computer to dual 6-cores

If I am not mistaken I think his Mac as is, can run up to PTHD 2018.12 on HS 10.13.6 beyond that, looks like to go to Mojave he would (like me) have to upgrade the graphics card

El Capitan and above all use the Metal framework that apple brought in to replace open gl and open cl. I would recommend an upgraded graphics card using any of the new OS’s.

Interesting I did not realize that. I am still running the stock (ATI Radeon HD 5570 1020MB) graphics card with HS 10.13.6 with no issues. I know Apple specifically recommends that Mid 2010 --Mid 2012 machines upgrade from the stock graphics for Mojave. but was not aware of it for El Cap -S and HS .
