The information is a year or two old, but there's DIY plans and links to others.

Also, do a search on the DUC. This has been discussed here many times.

Noren Products makes a gCab iso cabinet that conveniently holds a G5.

Isoraxx are good.

www.silencecases.com sells smaller iso cases that look very nice and are a little bit cheaper.

I am skeptical on the DIY models due to the potential downside if you screw it up. Cooked G5 anyone?

I second Isoraxx. The D&I place I do work for swears by them, and they sell ALOT of gear and installs. CPUs, RAID arrays, etc.

Keep in mind, if you have a G5, it wont fit in a standard Rack, unless you get the custom mounting kit: a hacksaw (no joke). A rack is 19" wide, the G5 is 22" or thereabouts. Unless you have a ton of room and can mount it upright, be careful

I just nbought an Isoraxx and installed it 4 days ago. It started with just the fan from my Ethernet Switch. That little sucker was so damn loud it was killin me. Then when I got the Digidesign 64bit Expansion chasis the fan was really loud so I opted for an Isoraxx for the money. I am so glad I did it. It isn't completely silent by any means, but without it that 20 or so DB sound like a plane engine in here. I reccommend it.

Thanks for the info,I am very grateful..as for previous searches on the DUC/google groups/gearslutz..etc. I tried and as I said with no official "name" for these the search is/was spotty
Barnabas'links are very helpful for the DUY,and the silence case is a great price point...the ISO seems to be the official choice for many here in LA
anyone else?

We ended up doing a DIY solution for our main lab, and we're quite pleased with it. We had to do a more complex design than the one that's linked above, and we ended up putting a portable AC unit into the box (Costco - $300).

We also found that a remote temp meter (Radio Shack- $70) was a great boost for our confidence that we weren't cooking our gear.

If you want TRUE isolation, then be prepared to bascially build a MINI-ROOM out of 2x4, and fully insulate it. We also used soundproofing rubber on all 6 sides of the resultant box.

This box does a fine job of keeping our gear quiet AND cool.

Best Regards.
