Any benefit to reinstatement given hardware / OS updates?

I have been contemplating buying a reinstatement for $299 to update my perpetual license to 2020.12. However, my question is given computer and OS updates can break older versions of software and assuming I have no interest in keeping my system eternally locked to the current state, does owning a perpetual license serve any purpose over the subscription plans which will continue to work across hardware / OS changes (assuming Avid makes PT work)? I don’t use PT often / at all these days, so the idea of moving to maybe a monthly subscription if I need it seems interesting - is there a way to do so without giving up my current perpetual license? For example, do I need another iLok to do that?

Unless you have a reseller who can sell you a reinstatement... they are no longer a thing from Avid.

Right - but a number of resellers still have them in stock for $299.

Correct but unless you are a time traveler you cant get a 2020.12 license

I think you meant 2019.12 and if you are looking to reinstate I would buy that asap as it might just stop any day now.

And $299 for the reinstatement is a great price not to fall behind or get stuck with a subscription as your only update option.
