Can you give specific details of your system and when this is occurring?

I have top of the range intel quad 7 and last night it was frightening when I opened a session and hit playback I got a burst of pink noise through the monitors and I was hit with the error Magic id doesn't match
Now that session wont open a whole days work down the tube unless there is some magic way of piecing it all togrther again all the audio is in the audio folder . this happened to me before back in protools 8 days but never happened since. this is actually frightening I done every thing I can and I don't back up until late at night

Default What's up?

Platform Mac/Win
Operating system with version details
Pro Tools 10 version number
Hardware setup (audio interface, hard drive(s), how connected...

Just trying to see if there is anything that jumps out from your answers. But it sounds like it is session specific, rather than hardware/software.

Not sure what to suggest since I'm not a tech, but click on the "Google the forum" link at the top and try entering this in the search field:
Magic ID doesn't match site:duc.avid.com

There are a lot of results, and I'm not sure which if any might help. Including the Related Searches at the bottom of the google results.

Two ways you MIGHT open this session:
1-hold the SHIFT key while opening(will make all plugins inactive)
2-Try opening from the Session Backups folder(assuming you have Auto-backup enabled, which it is, by default).

If you do get the session to open, this is how I would protect myself: Consolidate all audio tracks(back to zero) and export them to a folder named for the project(this would allow you to start over, without losing the audio that you have). If you have VI plugins working, I would also export the midi. Make some notes to help you in the worst case(if you have to start from scratch with the exported audio&midi).

If #1 allows you to open the session, you can make plugins active, one at a time, or by entire rows(you might track the issue to a rogue plugin)

Thank you Dave
I didn't have auto backup enabled couse I don't like it but it would realy help me now though/ Holding shift didn't work dave . I think I read somewhere that protools 7 would open it is that true?

Anyways I think its ludicrous and irresponsible for avid programmers to put something in the software such as this Magic ID when the have no way or no idea of how to fix it when it happens SUICIDE .

The very least you would expect is for them to help you put your session back together. I don't want to hear this crap about backups etc .This was a whole days work with very expensive musicians, and since there is no doubt that avid is to blame here I will talk to my lawyers to see if I can recupe the money I lost . This is simply not good enough.

If you do not have a backup of the session, did you try #2 in this link from the search results?
