Default Bassy finger picking, remedies?

I was recording my acoustic and it usually sounds great, but when I finger pick it comes out really bassy sounding and no good overall.

Is there an EQ or a little trick to fix this?

its a steel string.

i messed around with distances.....i think I may just need a different (quieter) room for the sound I want.

Finger picking is always more bassy, at least if you don't have any nail (like me!!). It's mostly a matter of mic placement (new strings don't hurt either), try pointing the mic closer to where the neck meets the body or putting the mic at an angle instead of straight at the guitar. Keep moving it around and listen to it in different positions.

You might also go for a brighter mic when recording finger-picking. A shelving low EQ cut may help your track.

Small diaphragm condenser mic pointed at the 12th fret, and subtractive EQ on the low end.

i agree with anothercolour. maybe add a little angle from the 12th fret pointing towards the sound hole and pull a little muddyness from around the 200hz range.

I like to add a second mic near the head for finger style. You might be amazed how much sound radiates from the headstock, and it's all bright, sparkly stuff on most guitars.
