Default HELP! I am buying a Dell Laptop with intent on buying a DIGI 001 as well

Can anyone answer my questions, because it seems sales people and support people can't. I am upgrading from a P3 650mhz PC to a P4 2.0 ghz Dell laptop that is loaded. I have finally decided top buy the DIGI 001 as well, but I have only now come to learn that the DIGI 001 cannot run on a laptop due to the PCI slot I would need to run the DIGI 001. I really don't want to get another Desktop, but I definitely need the 001, not the Mbox... the 002 would solve this problem but I can't swing that kind of money...how would the 001 run on my desktop, which again is a P3 650 mhz with 256 RAM? Help so I can go buy something soon...thanks!

check the compatibility docs to see if your MOBO will work with PT. a 650 will do a decent job, but your plug-in count will be low. my advice, go for a little less of a laptop and use the extra money to upgrade your desktop's MOBO, cpu, and add a stick of memory. OR, start donating plasma every chance you get until you can get the 002.

Shopping with intent is usually illegal to most females of Wife or Girlfriend status, how do you fair?

In order to get the digi 001 to work with a laptop, you need to get a pci expansion chassis. I'll tell you now they aren't cheap. Mine was $800 I believe. If you combine that with the price of the 001, you've practically paid for the 002 which will give you better conversion, more and better mic pre's and a control surface! Plus having to lug around the extra box is a drag...trust me. I wish the 002 was available when I bought my laptop. The only upside is you can use an ata-ide drive with the expansion chasis. So external drives would be quite inexpensive. If you still want to go this route, visit www.magma.com
