Re: New Mac Pro setup with OWC Ram and Accelsior SSD with New Mac Pro

Lots of this stuff is well covered online, outside of DUC. Just because you can over provision does not mean you necessarily should. I would be a little cautious about doing that on primary boot drives (that you want to work even if you stupidly/accidently fill up the container). Take your time, especially if this is all new to users (who are their own systems administrators). And look out for how you are backing these drives/containers up and for new failures that might get introduced as you move to APFS and/or (possibly over provisioned) containers. |

Re: New Mac Pro setup with OWC Ram and Accelsior SSD with New Mac Pro
Here's a question on the subject of APFS:
OK, so I have a new Mac Pro using APFS on the boot drive. I have a separate M.2 chip on which I will put client files. Can anyone see any potential downside to set that up as APFS? What is the client brings in his file on the old file system (Mac OS Extended Journaled), and I transfer to our APFS M.2? Will everything work ok? And once the session is over, would everything work once I transfer his file back to his "Mac OS Extended Journaled" drive? Or should I be keeping my M.2 set up as Mac OS Extended? Just don't want to be hurting client files, of course. Thanks for any info anyone can contribute! |

A file is a file is a file. Different file systems shouldn't be an issue.

Re: New Mac Pro setup with OWC Ram and Accelsior SSD with New Mac Pro
would not be better that the MacOS SSD is connected as well to a PCIe slot via an adaptor as you are planning with the Audio SDD?
Or is more important to the Audio SSD? Last edited by Zak7; 05-29-2020 at 06:18 PM. |

Re: New Mac Pro setup with OWC Ram and Accelsior SSD with New Mac Pro
Recently upgraded to a 7,1 Mac Pro 16-core.
Bought extra RAM (192GB) and 2 PCIe Accelsior M.2 SSD's from OWC - a 4TB for samples / VI libraries and an 8TB for sessions. Running them RAID 0 for fastest speeds (backing up to spinning SATA drives nightly). It's shocking how fast those drives are. Worth every penny. OWC rules. Been buying everything from them for years. Not a fan of the Catalina 10.15.3 / PT 2020.5 stability yet but at least the computer is fast. |
