2019 Mac Pro - Separate Audio Disk?
Today I learned that two SSD units in the new Mac Pro CANNOT be formatted as separate disk volumes.
Over the years Avid has advised putting audio data onto a separate disk... Not the boot disk. That was easy in a cheese grater with Four drive bays. My question: Is it still necessary to put audio on a separate volume? For the new 2019 Mac Pro that will require disks in an MPX slot, disks in the Pegasus expansion module, or external USB/T-Bolt disks. I am wondering if Avid has relaxed the "separate disk" requirement now that machines and data access is so very fast. Will someone from Avid comment on this? |

Re: 2019 Mac Pro - Separate Audio Disk?
With the speed of SSD's its not the show-stopper that it used to be. Having said that, DetroitT may be on to something, or why not just add an external SSD on USB3 or Thunderbolt?

Re: 2019 Mac Pro - Separate Audio Disk?
I will use the single main disk for PT sessions and see how it works.
If problems I will use a separate disk. I will post my findings in a month or so.. Paul |

Re: 2019 Mac Pro - Separate Audio Disk?
The PCIe/NVMe SSDs that you have in this Mac are so unbelievably fast that you will not run into issues putting sessions (and samples) on the boot drive. I've been asking Avid to update their out of date advice for years for folks working with super fast SSD and Avid just seem asleep.
You can mess with these SSDs and might want to for lots of reasons, increasing redundancy, installing multiple boot volumes, etc. |

Quote:
Ive seperated the 2tb into 3 partitions, one 1tb ssd has 2 partitions (500gb each) and one ssd has 1tb audio partition. It means you need to start from scratch, install os again etc.
