Default Laptop and software stolen...any tips?

Hi,

Our house was broken into, and my Macbook with Pro Tools 7.1.1 was stolen. My question is this:

Do I have to buy Pro Tools 8 now, or will digidesign likely work with me and allow me to just buy an upgrade to Pro Tools 8 from my 7.0 disc???

I still have the install disc, but don't know if I can re-install in on a new imac I will be buying. The plan is to get a new imac and run Pro Tools 8 on it. I just don't know if I am going to have to buy PT8 or if I can do some kind of upgrade after re-installing my 7.0 disc...any ideas of what you would do in this situation???

Thanks

Also, I still have my iLok with my Pro Tools 7.1.1 upgrade on it I'm guessing. Could I just reinstall all this somehow on my new mac, then buy the upgrade to 8???

Hey Seth! This is your co-worker. I don't think this question is relevant at this point, but I couldn't install my version 7- I own 7.3 and 7.4- on my computer. Version 8 only looked for the serial number on the iLok, which you have. I am also pretty sure that upgrading from version 7- any of them- to version 8 is the same price and no big deal.

Sweetwater supports this claim:

I just says to go from an older version to 8, apparently it could be almost any of them. But it would be worth a call to them.

So you got your computer?
