Default Re: Is the forum better or worse since the adding of the new mods?

One reason why I guess the idea of user mods on this forum doesn't bother me, is this has been pretty much a "for the user by the user" forum. There's been varying amounts of activity by paid employees over the years. But for the most part it has been users helping each other. If you had a serious issue that needed immediate assistance, you called tech support. At least IMO.

Before there were user mods, I've seen people try to steer and get threads back on topic. So now if avid has decided to bestow upon some of the more active members, moderator titles, that's fine by me. I wouldn't really want the position. Especially to do it for free.

And if it helps get this place back to the source of knowledge and helpfulness I believe it once was, all the better. I think ultimately it will. I also think if any mod ever does get over zealous they will be dealt with. Just as any "casual" forumite that crosses the line. Just my opinion. And remember what you paid for it.

For the most part the moderators I've seen have already been considered respected members of the DUC. And most importantly they have seen some of the CLASSIC DUC meltdowns (some of which will live on forever in the vernacular of the forum!!), that are the reason moderators were probably first considered. I don't mind it being a little less "wild west", maybe it can be a bit more informative.

There's been a few bumps in the evolution of the forum, but that's change.

(...as long as they keep General Discussion to my standards of general!!! )

I can offer 1 major improvement since the mods came into play. When someone has an issue that genuinely requires Avid help, it now happens much faster as the mods have a direct connection to company assistance

For better or for worse (I believe the former), the moderators are here to stay.

They have made it clear that they are not Avid employees and that their opinions are the same as they were before becoming a mod.

I am prepared to accept that. If I didn't, I'd have to consider myself as just being paranoid. After all, what great powers have been bestowed upon them...close/move a thread, tell me off....I can live with that, I'll just move on to another topic in another thread....I will survive to live another day.
