Default Muffling an e-drums kick pad

I just bought a V-drums kit with a PD-85 mesh kick and am surprised how loud the pad is. For recording I'll leave as is, but I'm thinking to somehow muffle it during practicing, provided it would still trigger.

Has anyone had any luck with such things? Any recommendations? Thanks.
