Default Best way to deal with plug-in latency.

Hey everybody.

I was just looking for some tips on compensating for plug in latency. Its really killing me lately. Making some of my nicer plugins not very usuable. Any suggestions short moving the tracks earlier in the timeline? I have the latency compensation plug in, but not really sure how to utilize it.

Thanks for any help.

Phil.

I hope you get some better ideas, but I just choose not to use plugins that have a lot of latency while mixing. Shifting a track ahead to compensate is a valid method but certainly is a pain. The Waves EQ and Bomb Factory plugins I use a lot, have no latency. Autotune is low enough as to not be a concern. I save the worst culprits for mastering where it is not an issue anyway. If you have a particular favorite that you use alot of, you could buss all the other tracks thru a stereo aux with the same plugin set to bypass or no effect.

Use same plugs and routings (same latency) on all tracks of any given overdub, so that at least all these tracks are phase-coherent as a group. Also, check this:

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I may fill out a Feature Request Form as well. I suppose I will mess around with the buss idea, I think for a lot of applications that should work. Otherwise I guess its bounce to disk, annoying. The worst of my plugs is the waves Linear EQ and MultiBand. Though usually put on the stereo buss, but not usuable on individual tracks.
