Default What graphics cards are you guys using?

I'm starting to believe that a long standing issue I've had with Pro Tools is related to my graphics card. I'm running a system identical to many people using the i7 processor in all aspects other than the graphics card and the power supply. Now given that the issue only happens with pro tools, that leads me to believe that the issue lies with some component of my computer that interacts or is affected in some way by pro tools. This rules out the power supply, and leaves me with the video card.

So, I'd like to hear what graphics cards some of you guys with i7 systems are using without issue so I can try one out and see if that fixes things.

Also, for what it's worth, I'm using a ATI Radeon HD 4550 (Diamond)

I tried an ATI 4350 and had no luck, so I went back to my old faithful MSI nVidia 7300LE 256(cost a whopping $37) and it seems fine. Curiously, I saw a recent compatibility page from Avid and they are now recommending nVidia only

The thing about those cards they have listed is that they're not easy to come across, and they sure aren't cheap. Noone in calgary has those cards.

However, as I just did a fresh windows install to get ready for PT9, I found new drivers on ATIs website from 2 weeks ago, and so far it's working out. I've learned to be skeptical of success on this front until it works smoothly for about a month or so, but I'm a couple hours in with a formerly problematic session and we're doing good so far.

Nvidia 8500GT here. Replaced a screaming (read noisy) gamer card Asus/NV card that came with the box. That mofo is even too big to actually put in my game rig...gotta redesign that box to use that GPU, just sits in a anti stat bag. The 8500 was sitting in a box cuz it sucked for gaming, but is perfect for my W7/PTLE/003 rig.

As expected, my issue is not actually resolved.

Is anyone else using the ATI Radeon HD 4550? I still strongly suspect that the problem lies with the graphics card, but I don't want to buy a new one if anyone else is using the same card without having their computer shut down randomly on them.

Low end 2d/3d GPU cards are dirt cheap... $50 ish any day of the week... $75 bucks for higher spec cards, though you don't need a raging gamer board, as I mentioned they can be noisy, so cheap is perfect here. Sometimes you just have to throw a few $ at the problem to make the pain go away

I have several rigs with 4350 fanless cards, one with a 3450. Been running ATIs forever (since the AGP days) with PT with nary a problem.

If your system is resetting its as likely to be the RAM or a motherboard. If to can prove its the card let the manufacturer warrentee it.

What sort of issues are you seeing? Just the random shutdown?

I recently built a new audio machine for a friend with this fanless 4550:

You might have noticed other posts on this forum from me indicating that all is NOT yet well. However, I don't think it's related to the video card. I'm getting occasional static when record-arming audio tracks.
