Default PT Ultimate number of inputs?

I have PT Ultimate and I'm planing on getting four Apollo X16s for 64 inputs.

My question is: Can PT Ultimate support 64 inputs (for recording) if using it with non Avid interface(s), or in my case four Apollo X16s?

Nope. Only 32 with non avid hardware w/o digilink.

If you’re gonna spend the money on 4 x16’s, you should consider the Avid MTRX and customize your configuration.

Sounds like quite a neat setup. If you want more than 32 I/O you can look at a different DAW than pro tools since it’s the only DAW on the market with an input limit for other hardware than AVID hardware.

You would need a HD Native or HDX card for making digilink connections with the interface(s). The Apollo X converters are top notch so the only alternative from avid that compares is the MTRX. However 1 MTRX can have 6 AD ór DA slots per unit max. so for 64x64 you would need 3 MTRX’s. That’s going to be an awful expensive sacrifice for being able to use ProTools with 32+ I/O top converters.
